Gluten-free Dairy-free Cashew Butter Chocolate Mocha Green Smoothie

Don’t you just love it when you can enjoy your favorite beverage – and get healthful and nutritional benefits from it at the same time? I sure do!

The whirring of the blender when I’m creating my gluten-free, dairy-free morning smoothies is one of the best sounds to me. I know that I’m about to embark upon a taste treat that will be just that … a taste treat. But I also have the satisfaction of knowing that I’m about to do something really good for my body too. With decaf coffee and unsweetened cocoa powder, I get to pretend I’m having a blended coffee drink from one of the all-popular coffee houses. I must confess that a decaf blended mocha used to be one of my favorite coffee house drinks. Now I’m doing one better. I’m controlling the sugar content, and I’m adding in healthful, whole food choices too. We’re talking antioxidants, potassium, abundant vitamins, calcium, and anti-inflammatory properties from fresh blueberries, ripe banana, kale, and spinach – none of which you can taste, but they’re still doing their jobs.

If you like your coffee house blended coffee drinks, or used to but can’t any longer because you’re dairy-free, I urge you to give this coffee and chocolate green smoothie recipe a try. Gluten-free Dairy-free Cashew Butter Chocolate Mocha Green Smoothie


No Peanut BugNo_egg_tag_image_0No Soy BugNo Dairy BugNo Gluten BugPrep time: 5 minutes

Blending time: 60-90 seconds

Makes: about 8-10 fluid ounces



½ cup unsweetened almond milk – I use Blue Diamond Almond Breeze  

½ ripe banana, peeled

¼ cup fresh blueberries

2 Tablespoons cashew butter homemade or purchased

1 cup baby kale leaves

1 cup baby spinach leaves

2 Tablespoons shredded coconut, optional

2-3 teaspoons instant decaf coffee granules

4-5 non-dairy ice cubes



Place all ingredients into blender in order listed in ingredients list. Begin blending in a high speed blender on low the gradually increasing speed to highest level and process for about 30 seconds, or until ingredients are smooth and creamy. If using a standard blender, follow prior directions, and allow extra blending time. Drink and enjoy.
