You can help, but you need to take action. Due to low interest level and slow sales, Costco Wholesale is contemplating pulling their inventory of gluten-free items from their shelves. Not only would this be a sad day for the shopper who is trying to keep their gluten-free diet on a manageable budget, but it might very well send the wrong message to the retail industry in general. Being gluten-free can be challenging enough, but paring down the availability of affordable items can make it more so. The gluten-free community is constantly growing and we need to continue our concerted efforts in supporting new growth in the retail channels, restaurant industry, health field, etc. Awareness in our “neighborhood” can only come about with our collective voices.
If you want your voice to be heard, please stop by your local Costco and fill out a comment card requesting gluten-free products continue being carried. And, if you feel quite ambitious, feel free to fill out comment cards at any of your local retail establishments you’d like to see carry gluten-free products.
