… Way “Best” is More Like It!
When I started to write this product review, I was really struggling for the right words to describe these chips. I could let you know that they are gluten-free (which I’m assuming you already know since you’re on a gluten-free website.) I could share with you that they come in six different flavors, or that they are made of sprouted grains, seeds, and beans. I could explain to you how the nutritional benefits increase significantly when using “sprouted” ingredients. And while all these facts are important enough to mention (and I might go into more detail about some of these later), none of this really matters if the chips don’t taste good.
So I thought about what to say for a long time, while snacking on the chips, for inspiration of course. Then one of my NON-gluten-free taste-testers came into my office and exclaimed, “Wow! Those are the best chips I've EVER tasted!" That’s when it came to me. I don’t need to try to share with you the quality of Way Better Snacks Tortilla Chips from a gluten-free perspective. I just need to share them from any chip perspective. Way Better Snacks Tortilla Chips, in every flavor, are the best I’ve ever tasted also. I believe there’s nothing in the gluten-free chips line, or in the chip market as a whole, that even comes close.
So, now that you know the final outcome of this reviewer’s opinion (and of those at Daily Forage as a whole), let me return my attention to my review details, and the chip “facts”. I was completely intrigued by the “sprouting” concept. I learned that sprouting allows the nutritional values of grains, beans, and seeds to be absorbed more completely than when they are consumed whole. For example, the Multi-Grain chips provide an abundant 420mg of Omega 3 essential fatty acids per one ounce serving. I’m all for getting the most bang for my buck, so to speak.
Way Better Snacks come in six flavors: Multi-Grain, Black Bean, Sweet Potato, Unbeatable Blues, Naked Blues, and Sweet Chili. Each chip has a whole-grain texture and taste, while keeping an individuality to each respective flavor. The Sweet Potato chips have a deep, earthy flavor of very pronounced sweet potato. I’ve had other sweet potato chips before that were quite good, but the true sweet potato flavor comes through much more completely in these. And the Sweet Chili, my favorite, have a sweetness with a wonderful kick of heat. There’s enough of a chili kick to not let you mistake what flavor you’re eating, yet just the right amount of heat and flavor to keep you coming back for more. And I did!
With all the flavors, the crunch is a perfect snap each time you take a bite. And there is no, absolutely no, residue of oil or greasiness in these chips. They do not leave a coating on the inside of your mouth, nor on the fingertips. They are the perfect chip to be eaten alone. Not by yourself (well, maybe you won’t want to share), but naked I guess is what I mean by alone. No not you being naked … the chip. Anyway, I think I’m digressing here. What I’m trying to say is that these chips have great flavor that is satisfying in its own right, but they are crispy and crunchy, and would make any salsa feel proud to be a partner.
All of the Way Better Snacks are all natural, vegan, certified gluten free, non GMO, certified kosher, low in sodium, and an excellent source of whole grain. They contain no trans fat, and no artificial flavors or preservatives. And each serving contains 17g of whole grains.
Way Better Snacks Tortilla Chips, though there are slight variations with each flavor, are made with flax seed, quinoa, brown rice, Daikon radish seed, chia seed, and broccoli seed, all which are used in the sprouted form. These ingredients are not typically found in most tortilla chips. I like it when someone brings something new to the table … literally.
Initially, we had six bags of Way Better Snacks Tortilla Chips by Live Better Brands, one bag of each flavor, to review. I thought, “What are we going to do with six bags of open chips, if I have to open each one to get a sampling?” I didn’t want them to go stale, and we typically don’t consume too many chips around here. Well, worrying about whether these chips would go to waste was definitely not something I had to consider for very long. Three bags were consumed in just over two days. Yes … they’re that good! So was I excited when I discovered them already at the store I typically shop at. I purchased two more bags, of course, and chatted with everyone I passed as I made my way to the check-out stand, doing my part to ensure this product gains a permanent place on the store shelves.
If you’re not completely convinced that these chips are going to be the best you’ve ever tasted, then don’t take my word for it, do your own empirical testing. Let me know what you think. And be sure to try all six flavors … which one will be your favorite? Will you pick Sweet Chili like I did?
