I made a cake that’s tried and true
King Arthur mix is just the one,
There’s no tummy ache with you!
We have a birthday here at Daily Forage this week. It’s exciting! I don’t think it really matters what age you are, birthdays should be exciting. And they should be spent with family, friends, and loved ones. But the birthday celebration can quickly become a disappointment for the guest-of-honor if there isn’t a cake, or the one being served is loaded with gluten and will be serving up its own agenda a bit later.
We believe you should be able to stick with your birthday party plans without worrying about a “surprise” at the end of the celebration, like a tummy ache or some other gluten-induced reaction (you know, kind of like a party-goer who has a hard time knowing when the party is over). We have a cake mix to share with you that is gluten-free and dairy-free, as well as free from all of the other top 8 allergens. This mix is not fashionably late to the gluten-free party, but it is tried and true, worth inviting repeatedly, and never overstays its welcome.
So who, or perhaps “what” is more fitting, is this flavored (oops, favored) invitee? King Arthur Flour Gluten Free Chocolate Cake Mix, of course. Developed in early 2010, and taste tested by Daily Forage shortly thereafter, King Arthur’s gluten-free chocolate (yes, it must be chocolate) cake mix enables us to create fail-safe celebrations that have us singing “Happy Birthday” every time.
What makes this mix so special? First and foremost, it is delicious! And the ease of preparing the batter is 1, 2, 3…measure, blend, bake. When the batter is baking, the aroma fills the air with the scent of “homemade” goodness. The flavor is a not-too-sweet, rich chocolate, delivered up in a moist and fluffy texture that melts in your mouth. We only have one dilemma … we love the cake right out of the oven, but we also love it with frosting once it has cooled. The dilemma? Sometimes there’s not enough cake left to frost after everyone has enjoyed indulging in the warm cake a bit too much (well, there’s really no such thing as too much in my book.) Some other mixes have a bit of a chemical scent and aftertaste, but not King Arthur. And leftovers, if there are any the next day or two, they are still just as moist and fluffy as baking day. There’s one more attribute to this gluten-free cake mix that makes it such a party pleaser, especially for the host … there’s no need to tell anyone that it is gluten-free, or to bake a gluten-containing cake, because our party-goers believe it truly is better than any other box cake mix … even the top “traditional” brands on the market.
